Kollmorgen CARTRIDGE DDR™ direct drive torque motors are available from Heason Technology
Broadbridge Heath, UK – April 2010: Introduced as a completely new category for Kollmorgen's range of direct drive torque motors, the CARTRIDGE DDR™ motor is now fully available from leading motion control specialists Heason Technology Ltd.
The innovative and very compact design includes a hollow shaft rotor, a stator and high resolution feedback device, all pre-aligned in a bearing-less assembly and enclosed in a durable housing complete with power and feedback connectors. The motor is mounted on a prepared bolt-circle on the customers machine and through a special compression coupling engages with a solid shaft to directly drive the load which is supported by its own bearing system.
The innovative CARTRIDGE DDR combines the high performance advantages of the frameless direct drive motor system with the convenience of a full frame torque motor at very competitive pricing and with much simplified installation.
With the torque density for this motor technology rated around 50% higher than conventional and similar sized direct drive motors, loads can be driven without the need for gearboxes or other mechanical transmission components, greatly improving the performance and power to size potential for demanding servo applications. Furthermore by removing compliance-prone shaft couplings and other power transmission components such as pulleys and gearboxes, any potential for backlash is eliminated and the low cog design allows for smooth rotation, excellent stability and positioning precision. The 'mount and run' concept also simplifies both designing-in and commissioning the motor; and with fewer components, machine maintenance and spares inventory can be reduced.
The CARTRIDGE DDR range is available in five frame sizes with nominal square flange mounting from 138 mm to 350 mm for continuous torque output from 4.5 Nm to 510 Nm and speeds to 2500 rpm.
In the larger frame sizes, the through shaft rotor can include a continuous bore which may be useful for providing machine cabling, slip rings or other services. The range is CE marked and UL-listed for global use with voltage ratings at 240, 400 and 480 V and maximum continuous current for the largest motor at around 33 Amps . The range includes an absoloute sine encoder system with a maximum resolution of over two million counts per rev.
Heason Technolgy provide a complete technical and support service for the new CARTRIDGE DDR torque motor including drives and motion controls such as the Kollmorgen Ethernet-based AKD™ servo drives. This range perfectly complements the high performance capability of the new direct drive motors equally suiting simple single-axis indexing through to fully synchronised multi-axis position control.
